Odd Society Release 6 Single Malt 40%
Sweet with peppery spices, peaches, malt, and nutty cereal. Orchard fruits and flowers. Slippery mouth feel punctuated by something that feels like chocolate and halva. Finishes long on sweet fruits and spice. ★★★★☆Odd Society is a small-batch microdistillery situated in the heart of East Vancouver's port district. However, you’ll swear on first pour this whisky was made in Speyside.Clean, clear notes of malt, nutty cereal, with loads of sweet apples, peaches and soaring floral esters on the nose lead into sweet fruits and canned peach syrup on the palate. Brisk peppery spices and pink sushi ginger keep the palate lively and exciting. The whisky is big and mouth-filling with textures somewhat like chocolate and halva. A longish finish remains pleasingly sweet and fruity with lingering crisp peppery spice. Scotland look out!Aging for 3 years in 56-litre quarter casks rather than Odd Society's regular 30-litre barrels gives a whisky that is lighter than previous releases and with less wood character, yet it tastes fully mature with well-developed flavours, all well integrated.Founder and distiller Gordon Glanz is putting his MSc in brewing and distilling from Scotland's Heriot Watt to good use, turning 100% BC-grown barley into fine whisky right in downtown Vancouver, British Columbia.Highly recommended. ★★★★☆$50 per 500ml bottle at the distillery. Thanks to Jessicka Yliruusi for the photos.
